DYNAMICAL MODEL AND SIMULATIONS OF EMOTION IN A RELATIONSHIP
An Abundance of Katherines, a novel written by John Green, tells a story about a boy named Colin Singleton who had been in relationship nineteen times with eighteen girls all named Katherine. INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/39117 An Abundance of Katherines, a novel written by John Green, tells a story about a boy named Colin Singleton who had been in relationship nineteen times with eighteen girls all named Katherine. In every relationship, Colin was always the one who got dumped. Because of that, Colin wants to build a mathematical model that can help other dumpees. In this final project, a simulation on dumper-dumpee model made by Colin Singleton is used to see the dynamics of Colin’s emotions during his relationship with the Katherines. From this simulation, it was found that the parameter of dumper/dumpee has an influence on the duration of the relationship between Colin and the Katherines, while the parameter of sociability that describe their tendency to be an introvert or extrovert has influence on Colin’s happiness during his relationship with the Katherines. Furthermore, a model was developed to describe the Katherines’ emotions during their relationship with Colin. Colin-Katherines love dynamic model is built based on Colin Singleton dumper-dumpee model and Romeo-Juliet model made by Strogatz in 1988. The parameters used in this model refers to the romantic styles written by Strogatz. It was found that each Katherine had different romantic styles, which are Narcissistic nerd, Secure lover and Hermit. For all cases, whether it is Narcissistic nerd, Secure lover, or Hermit, the larger the rejection of a partner’s feelings, the faster the relationship will end. Likewise, when rejection of one’s feeling is large, happiness during a relationship with their partner will quickly drop. text |
