Description
Summary:Airport is one of the needs of the public to travel from one city to another by using aircraft services. Only, the increasing number of passenger’s at large airports would be the impact of passengers' decision to move to a large airport instead of using the nearest (small) airport. The purpose of passengers moving from a small airport to a major airport is to get better airport services or to get some profit, the trend is known as airport leakage phenomenon in air transport. There are 3 factors that can influence passengers in choosing flight service, that is objective factor, subjective factor and stochastic factor, while airport leakage phenomenon is included in subjective factor because there are passenger characteristic, travel purpose, and psychological factor. The airport leakage phenomenon can be found at airports less than 240 Km away from other airports, connected to highway or toll road network connections with travel time of 3-4 hours overland to the alternate airport, and different characteristics between airports. In this phenomenon, there are airport leakage factors that can influence passengers' decisions on the selection of departure airports to be used, including access time, ticket price, frequency, schedule, airline, airplane type, flight type, service quality, and reliability. The method to be used in this research is descriptive quantitative and the techniques used in collecting data are questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. This study was conducted at BIHS against BISH because the distance between the two airports is 3-4 hours traveling by road, the two airports are below 240 Km, and the difference in characteristics between the two airports. Based on the results of the analysis conducted, it was found that passengers from Bandung still tend to choose to use the BISH as a departure airport compared to using BIHS located close to their location. The airport leakage factors affecting the passengers choosing to use BISH are the factor of ticket price and airline factor, besides the frequency factor and the flight schedule factor found can affect passengers from Bandung. Conclusions obtained BIHS found experiencing airport leakage phenomenon on the Makassar route and Kuala Lumpur route, this phenomenon occurs due to both factors and to deal with the impact of this phenomenon is expected BIHS and other airports experiencing leakage in order to try to use advertising as an attraction marketing, improving airport services such as adding airlines, frequencies, and adding new aviation routes. In addition, airports and airlines can provide relatively cheap ticket prices to passengers.
