Summary: | The competition for applying to the public universities is getting tighter throughout the time. As one of the required subject in the university admission test, mathematics is considered to be a difficult subject for some students. Conceptual understanding is one of the goals in learning mathematics. Peer teaching is one of the learning models that can be implemented by mathematics teachers in the classroom. The objectives of this research is to find out whether peer teaching learning model influences high school students’ conceptual understanding for their university admission test preparation. The research was conducted in one of the private courses in Bandung, taking the 11th grade students as the objects. Twenty students (IPA 1) were taken as the experiment class, where the peer teaching learning model is implemented and there are eighteen students (IPA 2) in the controlled class, where the conventional learning model is implemented. The design of the research is posttest-only. The data retreived are students’ mathematical conceptual understanding, from the essay questions. The result shows that students who were given the peer teaching method gets higher results than those who received the conventional model. This concludes that the peer teaching learning model influences students to a better mathematical conceptual understanding. Hopefully this research contributes not only for private courses, but also the schools in general. |
