Summary: | Construction companies are basically intensive-knowledge entities. It is due to their
nature of business which employ extensive collaboration amongst various parties,
uses resources massively, highly segmented, rely on skill sets and vary across types
of project. To effectively organize this condition, many contractors initiate to
implement knowledge management concept. In addition to organizing the
knowledge, knowledge management is also expected to provide positive effect for
enhancing the organizational performance.
The main purpose of this research is to determine the impact of knowledge
management on contractor performance by means of analyzing the relationship
between maturity and capability level of knowledge management. The impact of
knowledge management on contractor performance was analyze using path
analysis method, whereby the relationship between maturity and capability level of
knowledge management was analyzed using regression linier method.
Knowledge capability model in this research was developed based on the capability
model proposed by Andrew Gold with additional variable which is contractor
performance. Retained earnings was selected as a financial performance indicator,
while loyal and new customer was selected as non-financial performance. The
knowledge maturity model was adapted from Kulkarny as the selected reference.
The result shows that knowledge management has a positive impact on contractor
performance, for both financial and non-financial performance, such as benefit of
asset and equity growth and also the amount of loyal customer. Furthermore, this
research also indicated that maturity level has only marginally impacted knowledge
management capability, with factor of 7.28%. |
