Understanding of Sand Production Rate Through Van Den Hoek And Geilikman’s Analytical Model

Sand production from sandstone resevoir should be anticipated before producing oil/gas wells. Sand production in well needs sand control equipment installation that requires a sufficient cost and also especially for offshore well, it cost very expensive for rig mobilization to conduct well intervent...

Sand production in well needs sand control equipment installation that requires a sufficient cost and also especially for offshore well, it cost very expensive for rig mobilization to conduct well intervention. This study attempt to give understanding of sand production rate through analytical model based on the study of Van den Hoek and Geilikman, the most thorough analytical model solution. Van den Hoek and Geilikman presents a model for the prediction of sand production rates and volumes as a function of bottom-hole condition, drawdown and time. This analytical model combines transient fluid flow around the wellbore, sand production into the wellbore and sand lifting to the surface. Stehfest's numerical inversion method is used to transfrom analytical solution in Laplace space to real space. Sensitivity analysis is conducted for several parameters such as UCS, porosity, viscosity, permeability, and reservoir pressure. This study concludes that UCS is the most sensitive parameter affecting sand production rate text
