Summary: | An infrastructure that will be built on land needs geotechnical analysis. A geotechnical analysis is needed to find out how strong the soil receives the load and how to engineer so that the soil can accept the load. Good land can receive loads without any structural or technical assistance. However, these conditions are very difficult to find so that to withstand the burden of land requires help both structurally and technically. Structural assistance is intended to be a channel aid in the form of columns or poles to channel loads into hard ground. Whereas technical assistance is intended in the form of land improvement so that its carrying capacity keeps in mind.
This final project discusses the geotechnical design of a specialized terminal in West Kalimantan including the design of the pile foundation to support the warehouse and dock structures and the design of soil repairs to support pavement and breakwater. The stages of this final project are divided into two, the first part is the design of the foundation for the warehouse and pier, and the second part is the design of land improvement in the land area using preloading-prefabricated vertical drain, as well as the design of soil improvements in the sea area by installing mini pile to support the breakwater.
The stage for designing the foundation in this final project is to interpret the land data by following the results of testing both from the results of direct testing or from the results of laboratory testing. Furthermore, the interpretation of load data so that the foundation dimensions will be adjusted to the load acting on the foundation. In addition to the foundation must be strong against the load that works, the reduction in the foundation is also taken into account in this final project so as not to cause damage to the beam in the upper structure. In this final project, the pile foundation is used because of its easy implementation in the port area.
Meanwhile, the stages for soil improvement are the interpretation of soil data, then checking the carrying capacity and land subsidence before repairing, then the design of soil improvement, and the last checking the carrying capacity and decreasing after soil improvement. In the land area, soil repairs are carried out in the form of the preloading-prefabricated vertical drain to support stacking and connecting roads. Whereas in the sea area soil repairs are carried out in the form of installing mini pile to support the breakwater.
