Summary: | Globalization has forced manufacturing companies to produce low cost and
high quality product with high product variations in order to survive in this global
competition. Lean production system becomes popular among manufacturing
companies in producing low cost and high quality product effectively by reducing
wastes in production. Just in time (JIT) concept is one of lean production system
pillars. The JIT idea is to produce a number of product as many as number of
demand.
One method to implement JIT is to establish takt time (production rate)
which is decided every month based on number of demand. Because of that,
number of man and human work distribution need to be planned through standard
work every month. Standard work is used to plan effectively sequence of repetitive
human work (less waste) in one production cell and to plan number of work in
process needed in order to create consistent and stable production based on
decided production rate. Takt time and standard work planning which must be
changed every month will be easier and more consistent if assisted by tools. This
research was developing tools to manage standard work planning in form of
standard work management information system.
This information system design was started by identifying objects and its
attributes found in the problem. After the objects had been decided, they became
reference for designing suitable database. The next step was designing process
model to define information process flow. Next, the graphic user interface (GUI)
has been written by using web based programming language. At last, the web
based application was tested by using data which was taken from real case study.
Furthermore, the result from the test would be used to modify this application.
The output of this research is a web based standard work application that
acted as bridge between user and system. The application could assist modeling
work in a production cell, calculate takt time, calculate cycle time, calculate
number of manpower needed by a production cell, calculate standard production
capacity, assist operator work distribution by standard work, establish number of
WIP needed in each work station, and print the information in hardcopy. |
