Description
Summary:Brake pad is the example of abradable materials that can be bought easily. However, HVOF has never been used to make brake pads which can improve the mechanical properties of components. This is an interesting thing to study because by increasing its mechanical properties, this component can be used for a longer period of time. This research was carried out by varying the parameters of the HVOF process namely 50oC, 100oC, and 150oC preheating and blasting, etching, and blasting which were added etching surface treatments. From this research, the effect of the parameters used will be known on the thickness, hardness and wear characteristics of the specimen. From this research, it known that surface treatment namely blasting + etching provide the highest surface roughness which produce highest thickness and hardness and the best wear characteristics. Moreover, pre heat temperatur on 150oC provide the highest thickness and hardness and the best wear characteristics. From the specimens made, the highest hardness is 488 HV with thickness of 0,168 mm and mass reduction of 0,002 g in 3 cycles. From the research done, it is known that the wear phenomenon that occurs is abrasive wear phenomenon.
