Summary: | Sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) is a group of wildly growing macroalgae and has the potential as a raw material for extracting phytosterol compounds that are useful in the fields of cosmetics, health, and food. The purpose of this study is to determine biomass production, fitosterol production, and productivity through optimization of the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus and elicitation of salicylic acid. Cultivation was carried out on sea water medium for 10 days with a density of 0.117 g / cm2. Extraction was carried out using the reflux method using hexane solvents. Determination of residual nutrients using the Nessler Method for ammonia, and ascorbic acid for phosphate. In this study, the treatment of the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus produced the highest biomass and fitosterol produced at a ratio of 10: 1, respectively 2,427 ± 0,031 g and 0,0188 g fitosterol / g dry weight. Elicitation with salicylic acid produced stable biomass as the concentration of salicylic acid increased, with the highest production of fitosterol in the treatment of 200 ?M, amounting to 0.04 g of fitosterol / g dry weight. Thus, it can be concluded that the highest estimation of phytosterol productivity can reach 0.58 tons / hectare a year by treatment of 200 ?M salicylic acid elicitation. |
