The fulfilment of the electricity needs is still obstructed in several areas outside of PLN electricity grids, causing low electrification ratio in such place even though they have adequate number of natural energy resources. One form of natural energy resource is water. Water is one of the renewable energy resources that is highly available in Indonesia and that energy can be used as electricity energy source for the area with low electrification ratio. Problem in utilizing water energy is that the construction of hydro power generation is still rather complex. The purpose of this undergraduate final project is to design crossflow water turbine which is a turbine with relatively low geometry complexity. The design process includes geometry calculation and numerical simulation of crossflow water turbine. Data that are being used in design process of the turbine are net head 30 meter and maximum discharge 0.527 m3/s. Three angle of nozzle angle opening are tested to obtain turbine design with best efficiency. Simulations are also done with several variation of runner speed and guide vane opening to obtain turbine characteristics. Based on the results of geometry calculation, numerical simulations, and analysis, the dimensions of runner are obtained with outside diameter 437 mm and inside diameter 288 mm. The turbine runner consist of 24 blades made from NPS 5 Schedule 10 pipe. The nozzle is equipped with a guide vane with profile Wortmann FX69PR281-il. The designed turbine gives best efficiency 63.9% and generates 98.7 kW power at turbine with nozzle opening angle 90o and guide vane opened 100%. text
