Summary: | Indonesia was titled as “the laziest walkers country” because the street is not
pedestrian-friendly yet. This problem can be solved using more pedestrian-friendly
street design concept. The shared street is one of this kind street concept because they
combining all modes and activity on the same space with pedestrian-priority
intervention. This concept using social interaction and democratic process to localize
the design of the pedestrian-friendly street. Actually, Indonesia has been using this
concept without policy adjustments. It is making the street still prioritize the traffic.
Whereas, there are so many narrow streets that cannot provide any sidewalk which is
need this concept. DKI Jakarta had less than 10% sidewalk on the street because of
this street condition. Qualitative method used in this research to review the policy and
the existing condition for concept operationalization of shared street in Indonesia
condition. RW 02 Tugu Selatan, Koja, Jakarta Utara has chosen to be the case study
because it is representing the unique Indonesian residential area, Kampung Kota. The
result is we can operationalize the concept with policy adoption and addition because
there is a slot to implementing the concept without more fundamental changes on
policy and institution. |
