Summary: | Adorption refrigeration technologies are thermally driven systems. This
technology is the green technology especially when applied in areas where waste
heat is available. One of the main barriers to uptake of adsorption refrigeration
technology is low efficiency compared with the other thermally driven
refrigeration system.
In this research, the adsorption refrigeration system was tested using
refrigerant R32 as working fluid and activated carbon modified by nitric acid
(HNO3) as an adsorbent. The tests are conducted to obtain the results in the form
of cycle time, cooling effect, COP, SCP, and the effect of variations in testing
parameters against these values.
The test results showed the value of cooling effect ranged between 17 kJ
to 38 kJ for all variations of the parameters, while the cycle time is 36 minutes,
40 minutes, and 50 minutes for each value of T3 (55oC, 65oC and 75oC). COP
values ranged from 0.14 to 0.25, while the values of SCP ranged between 4 W/kg
to 6.3 W/kg. T3 parameter variations affect the values of calor heating and the
cooling effect, while the activated carbon modification affects only the cooling
effect of the machine. Additionally, the differences in testing procedures cause
the differences cycle time. The testing procedure is the illustration of how the
adsorption refrigeration system is operated. |
