Description
Summary:Abstract:

The antiallergic activity of sambiloto (Andrographis paniculta Nees., family Acanthaceae)and sembung (Bluma balsmifera (L) DC., family Compocitae) leaves on the isolated guinea-pig ileum, mast cell degranulation and systemic anaphylaxis methods has been studied. From the ethanol extracts, three fractions were obtained i.e. petroleum eter, chloroform and acid fraction. The acid fractions of each plant significantly (P<0,01) inhibited contractile respons caused by histamine at concentrations of 7,4-73,9 ug/ml; significantly (P,0,01) prevented mast cell degranulation effect of compound 48/80 at concentration of 0,01-0,1% (w/v) and protected active cutaneous anaphylaxis induced by ovalbumine in mice at dose of 100-800 mg/kg body weight. Both the petroleum ether and the chloroform fractions did not show antiallergic activity. It was shown that sambiloto and sembung leaves showed antiallergic activity in vitro as well as in vivo.
