Summary: | Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an unit in the hospital where seriously ill patients are cared
with specialised monitoring equipment. One of the drugs used in the ICU are antibiotics.
The appropiate antibiotic should be given in a spesific patients infected by bacteria in
order to reduce the adverse effects of inappropiate antibiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to
have the the actual resistance pattern. This study aims to determine the antibiotic resistance
pattern and to assess the antibiotic sensitivity trends in the ICU, where was divided into
three units, ICU (general), Neonatus ICU / Pediatric ICU (NICU/PICU), and Stroke Unit
(SU). This study was a retrospective observational study. The antibiotic resistance pattern
study was carried out in the period of October to December 2014 and antibiotic sensitivity
trends study was carried out in the period of January to December 2014. Resistance of
bacteria ensue if sensitive percentation about <50%. Chi-square analysis (level of
significancy (p)=0,05) method was used to assess the significancy of antibiotic sensitivity
trends. There were 112 specimens used in resistance pattern study which consist of smear,
bullion, fluids, blood, pus, sputum, swabs, urine, fluid umbilicus, cerebrospinal fluid
(CSF), secretions, tip, and vaginal secretions. Bacteria that have the highest prevalence of
resistance is Acinetobacter baumannii (ICU) 100%, Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL)
(NICU / PICU) 80%, and Citrobacter freundii (SU) 100%. There were 526 specimens
used in the antibiotic sensitivity trends. The sensitive to resistance bacteria trends showed
by Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ICU), Acinetobacter
baumannii and Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL) (SU). The resistance to sensitive bacteria
trends showed by is Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ICU), Klebsiella pneumoniae ss.
Pneumonia (NICU / PICU), Acinetobacter baumannii (SU).
