Description
Summary:Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Indonesia’s petroleum production will plummet to 93 millions Barrels of Equivalent (BOE) by the year 2050. Meanwhile, kemiri sunan flourishes in Indonesia and it has a potential to be utilized as raw material of biofuel. This research studies the operation of flexible single screw extruder to extract kemiri sunan kernel, followed by conversion of crude oil into biodiesel. Flexible single screw extruder uses T66/F16/I41/I41/I41/I41/F16/F10 screw configuration, shaft rotation velocity at 25 rpm, barrel temperature at 75oC, 627-hole filter barrel, 5 mm x 5 mm of raw material. Prior to extraction, 300-gram kemiri sunan is ovendried to 11.32, 7, and 5% of moisture content. In addition, this research also studies the consequences of rice straw addition towards the yield produced. Initial 200-gram kemiri sunan kernel is mixed separately with 5, 10, and 20 g of rice straw. Kemiri sunan wet cake from mechanical extraction is then extracted further by dissolving its remaining oil using nhexane. Crude oil obtained is then converted into biodiesel through esterification and transesterification processes. Kernel with 5% moisture content produces the best percentage of yield reaching 13.88%. Addition of 5 g of rice straw produces the best yield reaching 14.97%, while nonrice straw addition only produces 9.09% of yield. The best biodiesel obtained possesses acid value(0.46mgKOH/g oil),density (0.888 g/ml), and kinematic viscosity (4.614 mm/s) that have already met SNI 7182:2015 standard. Meanwhile, iodine value obtained has not met requirement from SNI 7182:2015. Therefore, kemiri sunan oil needs to be studied further for any uses but biofuel.
