INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/45839 Orientation: The contemporary business organizations around the world, together with the government regulatory regimes, are continuously promoting flexibility to the labor market, rearranging work from full-time work to part-time. However, this activity may let employee to deal with a greater tendency to be disengaged and distracted at work. Research purpose: This study aims to give insights of how part-time work influence employee engagement, and how it is different to full-time work. Design/ Methodology/ Approach: A phenomenal approach is used to conduct this study based on the perspective of employees who are either within the southeast Asian nationals (Indonesian, Malaysian and Pilipino) or Western European nationals (Dutch, German). Both convenience sampling and purposive sampling was used in this research, and about 13 employees agreed to participate. The interviews are semi structured and the data analysis are shown through using thematic analysis. Findings: The results show that there is a huge difference in the types of job and personal resource between part-time and full-time employee, therefore, employees who are working part-time may influence employee engagement, that may not be the same with full-time employees. Practical Implication: This study contributes to give insights to managers and organizations to understand that the amount of resources that a company provides to their employees may not apply the same for part-time and full-time workers. And since these resources are the drivers of employee engagement therefore, companies should make sure that only the appropriate resources are facilitated to maintain employee well-being and work engagement. text |
