As the population increases, so was the waste that came along with the same increasing consumerism. Among them, the waste made out of plastic need a really long time to decompose, thus led research and cultivation about alternative material that are environment-friendly become more and more popular nowadays. One of those alternative material that was being developed in Indonesia is called Nata de Soya, which is made with the wet leftover waste from tofu production. The use of waste from tofu production has other reason besides its large quantity, is because it could serve as a medium to grow Nata. Sintawardani once made a rough calculation in her article (2012) that said Bandung is predicted to drown in about 16.8 million litre of acid waste each year. Without further handling, the leftover waste usually get thrown away in the channel near the factory. If let alone, the waste will cause bad smells to spread because the waste contains lot of organic components that are easy to rot. In the future, the development of Nata de Soya as an Alternative material is expected to reduce the numbers of plastic based waste and also improve the value of the leftover waste from tofu production itself. text |
