Summary: | Disruption which affects telecommunication industry in the world, including Indonesia, made a massive impact to the business continuity of industry player. The advent of OTT ( Over The Top ) services which bandwidth exhaustive, created the “dumb pipe” phenomenon which causes a significant increase in operational costs telco operator to have to swallow. To make it worse, are the presence of OTT services like messaging apps such as Whatsapp, Telegram, Wechat etc. which not only capable for text communication but also capable of giving voice and video services. These services are a severe threat to traditional telecommunication services: voice and text.
PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the biggest telecommunication provider in the country, assigned the responsibility to execute innovation process in Divisi Digital Services (DDS) under the Directorate of Digital & Strategic Portfolio. In carrying its role as the innovator, one approach taken by DDS is to adopt “Lean Startup” methodology into an internal startup program called Digital Amoeba, which started in early 2017. The program facilitate employee to create startups to execute innovative ideas, which operate as and “independent companies” within PT Telkom .
This study used qualitative approach, and analyzed using Porter’s 5 Force and SWOT analysis. Data were gathered from observation and interview. Interviewees were taken from stakeholder in Telkom include from DDS, Human Capital Development, Finance and personnel who involved in Digital Amoeba program.
Ten batches of Digital Amoeba program has been run, where six of them has completed. Data generated from completed batches shown that adoption of Lean Startup methodology have positive impact to accelerate development of innovative ideas into working products. Those products also have been successfully delivered to customers which generates revenues to the startups. |
