Description
Summary:Abstrak:

In the present study the effect of cerium stearate (CeSt3) upon the photodegradation of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)-starch polyblends had been studied by using FTIR, SEM, mechanical properties, and molecular weight changes. Two types of starch were used, pure starch and plasticized starch (PLST). Hyamine was used as a surfactant. Five types of blends were examined: LLDPE-starch-hiamin (BO), LLDPE-starch-hiamin-CeSt3 (B1), LLDPE-PLST-hiamin-CeST3 (B2), LLDPE-PLST-CeSt3 (B3), and LLDPE-CeST3 (B4). The composition of polyblend were starch or PLST 20%, hyamine 2%, and CeSt3 0.3% based upon total weight of polyblend. Polyblends were irradiated for 8, 15, and 21 days. The results indicated that CeSt3 accelarated photodegradation of the polyblends whereas starch, PLST, and hyamine inhibited them. Processes as crosslinking and chain scission occur during irradiation. After 21 days irradiation, all polyblends had been photodegradated.
