INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/48680 Background: Research on examining the badminton physiological characteristics and performance capacity in Indonesia’s badminton is still scarce. This study aimed to assess the physiological characteristics of Indonesian junior badminton players especially men's doubles badminton athletes, and to use the findings to plan training with greater precision. Material and Methods: Overall, 12 male junior badminton players from Jaya Raya Badminton Club were recruited to be subjects. All participants completed two experimental sessions. The first session (laboratory condition), VO2max was measured using a velocity dependent ramp test (INCS) incremental protocol. During the second session (on-court condition), the participants played a simulated match on court, according to the current rules of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Results: A total 350 rallies were analyzed. Statistical analyses revealed, double junior men’s players hit the shuttlecock more often with drive shots techniques (466 shots). For the fB, ANOVA revealed significant differences between pair 3 vs pair 6 (p=0.004), pair 4 vs pair 6 (p=0.030), also pair 5 vs pair 6 (p=0.023). For the lactate measures ANOVA revealed significant main effects of time (p=0.001) and group (p=0.001). Furthermore, independent t-test revealed significant of HR average among laboratory and on-court conditions (p=0.001). Conclusions: The findings in this study, was provided evidence that the performance characteristics of men's badminton doubles category are high intensity and moderate intermittent games with a predominance of short breaks that are longer than every relly, with this study further emphasizing that the anaerobic process system (alactic acid) plays the biggest role in supplying energy, especially in any movement that has high exploitation during the competition process. Based on these findings, we encouraged coaches and athletes to use high-intensity interval training (HIIT) training, as design training in improving the performance of badminton athletes, especially Indonesian men's doubles badminton athletes. text |
