Description
Summary:<b>Abstract :</b><p align=\"justify\"> <br /> In a filtration operation there are two stages: filtration and backwashing. Backwashing filter media is an important process than its filtration itself. If a backwashing process in not appropriate, it causes decreasing filters performance. Because of this reason, it is necessary to develop a continuous backwashing filter. In this filter, backwashing process and filtration process will be done at the same time by using air and water simultaneously in order to minimize wasted water demand and to make the operator\'s work easily. The aim of this study is to determine the ratio of air - water volume in a continuous backwashing filter and to find the performance of ratio of air - water volume on filter operational. Based on the research, it is found the relationship between ratio of water velocity to minimum fluidization velocity and the square of air velocity to predict the backwashing threshold using air and water simultaneously, that is 1111.898v 2u + %(v a / vmf) =111.11 for minimum fluidization <br /> velocity of measurement data. Optimum removal occurs in ratio of air - water volume of temperature and pressure standard condition: 0,22 (grain diameter: 0,425 - 0,60 mm) and 0,32 (grain diameter: 0,60 - 0,8.5 mm). If that ratio reaches 1.1 so the air volume condition is not optimum. Besides, water consuming in continuous backwashing filter is 90% of semi-continuous backwashing filter.
