| Summary: | <b>Abstract :</b><p align=\"justify\">Vehicle tracking system is a system which can be utilized to track a position, course, and speed of one or more vehicles. Generally speaking this system consists of two parts. The first part is the unit which is placed on the mobile unit (vehicle). This unit consists of a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and a communication device which is secure, low cost and has wide coverage area. The second part is static unit which is utilized to monitor the locations of the vehicle which carry the mobile unit (first part). This static unit consists of communication device which receives data from mobile unit and a computer to visualize the locations of vehicles upon a digital map (GIS, Geographic Information System). <br />
<p align=\"justify\">This research tries to implement a vehicle tracking system which is low cost, secure and has wide coverage area. <br />
<p align=\"justify\">To make the user access to the system easier, the implemented static unit is equipped with a module that has the ability to communicate with a web server. Therefore the locations of vehicles can be accessed by several parties through the internet utilizing a web browser. Specific access validation is utilized to maintain the security factor. Implementation is conducted in PC based environment supported by Palm Pilot device. |
