population with the largest percentage compared to other generations. It means that the percentage of the
youth workforce will also increase in a company. Besides, several studies have also focused on identifying
differences in the characteristics and values of Generation Z with previous generations. Generation Z is
considered by many to be the digital-savvy generation. They do not know a world without the internet. The
difference in character from Generation Z and previous generations is very likely to influence their
preferences in the world of work. The problem is that many company employees assume that there are
enough similarities between Generation Z and the previous generation so that they do not update their
company strategies or their employer branding. It has attracted the attention of many people including
writers who hope business leaders need to prepare themselves to work successfully and retain the best talents
of Generation Z. Therefore, this study aims to find the dream career of Generation Z and the main job factors
that are sought after by Generation Z at work today.
This research uses quantitative method with descriptive and statistical research types. In this study, 664
students from private universities in Bandung became respondents. Based on the descriptive analysis, the
authors found that after graduating from college, Generation Z wanted to find work. Then in their shortterm
careers, they hope to be able to move up to a higher position, while in their long-term careers,
Generation Z has dreams of becoming entrepreneurs. This can be related to the results of research on the
job factors they want most. Where Generation Z, on average, focuses more on relationships with superiors,
company policies and programs that focus on shaping employees or their workforce. Where a supportive
leader, role and responsibilities, and training and development are the three main factors they want in finding
a job. By preparing Generation X and Y to become leaders by turning them into comrades in their comrades
in completing tasks, creating clear job descriptions, and organizing training and development programs
using technology while facilitating the lifestyle of this generation. By knowing the career preferences and
job factors that concern Generation Z, recruiters will gain in-depth knowledge, so they can prepare and
manage Generation Z for the future of the company. |
