Summary: | As the usage of information technology dramatically increases in business, the need to store all of the necessary data becomes important, and several methods of data storage has been developed up until now. One of the most commonly used is on-premise storage, where data is stored in a device called server and company manage it by themselves. It is also usually located inside the company’s office, or in a special place the company has prepared for it. Servers usually has a life cycle of five years, and it needs to be replaced when the fifth year has come. As the subsidiary company that takes care of the needs of the group company and other subsidiaries’ information technology services, PT. Rahmah Informasi Teknologi had planned to replace their current server in 2017, five years after the purchase in 2012, where they created a project for this replacement. However, the project’s execution had to be delayed for three years. The author attempts to analyze the root cause of the delay by interviewing the related respondents from PT. Rahmah Informasi Teknologi and some users from other subsidiaries in order to understand the impact caused by the delay. The interview transcript is coded and mapped into keywords, and the frequency of the keywords are calculated to discover the major findings. The major findings are mapped into fishbone diagram, where the author decides the main cause of the issue, which are: 1. the cost of the project is high, 2. the allocated budget is smaller than expected, 3. the delay will not cause major negative impact to the main business, and 4. the company is following the management’s decision to hold off the project’s execution. Since the project has been changed from simply purchasing the server to moving some of the data to cloud storage, the author proposed several solutions to help the current project, which are: 1. improving the project planning by reviewing the current planning with the standard written in PMBOK, and 2. prepare a proposal following the project selection criteria from the secondary literature. |
