Summary: | The number of internet users and the number of smartphone users in Indonesia have increased
quite significantly in the past few years. In addition, the number of mobile banking users for
several banks in Indonesia has increased from 2015 to 2019. The growth that has occurred has
made mobile banking one of the products of electronic banking which is currently a major concern
for the banking industry in Indonesia.
The analysis in this study is divided into two parts, the first is an analysis to test whether there is
a statistical difference between banks that have adopted mobile banking and those that have not.
The second analysis is to determine whether mobile banking affects the performance of banks
listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The analysis was carried out on banks in Indonesia
listed on the IDX for the period 2013 - 2019. The Mann-Whitney U Test method was used to
perform the first part analysis and the panel data regression method with the Fixed Effect Model
was used to perform the second part analysis.
The analysis results in the first section show that there are differences in performance between
banks that have adopted mobile banking and banks that have not. In addition, the results of the
analysis in the second section show that mobile banking has a negative and significant effect on
bank performance. The negative effect of mobile banking on performance can be caused by the
unachievable economic of scale where the number of mobile banking users is still low. However,
it should be noted that mobile banking is not the only factor affecting bank performance. The
solution that can be given is that the banking industry needs to continue to develop mobile banking
and also increase the number of mobile banking users so that it is expected to be able to improve
banking performance. |
