In its application, cast iron is a material that often experiences cracks and also prone due to impact loading because it has a low impact toughness. Therefore, a study was conducted to evaluate the effect of groove design on the impact toughness on repair welding of cast iron components using the SMAW method. This study consists of two work section, namely secondary data study and experimental section. In the secondary data study, data from various literatures were analyzed to determine the effect of groove design on repair welding to hardness and impact toughness. As a, comparison, experiment is also done by SMAW welding and impact testing. The impact test were carried out using Charpy method and the experimental data were also analyzed to determine the effect of groove design on repair welding to the impact toughness. The secondary data study result in a trend that different groove designs will affect the weld hardness if it affects the heat input and cooling rate of the weld. For the impact toughness, secondary data studies and experiments produce the same trend where the impact toughness of the welds is different for each groove design due to the difference in the volume of the groove and also the toughness ratio between filler metal and base metal. text
