INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/54613 Collector is a term used to define someone who collect things. Collectors can come from any demography, there are no limit of age, gender, income, education, and other factors when it comes to collecting something. The items that a collector can collect also varies, starting from vintage luxurious goods to a simple item such as stickers or postcards, this leads to different kinds of collectors throughout the world each with different items as well as different reasons for collecting those items. There are those who collect items for pure enjoyment, there are those who collects because they want to fulfil their childhood dreams, there are also those who collect items with an intention to invest with those items. This paper aims to map the factors that can be used to define Indonesian collectors, we choose Indonesia specifically for this research because compared to literature regarding collectors from all around the world there are only few discussions within Indonesian academic research regarding this specific field of knowledge, therefore there might be facts that have not been put into light regarding Indonesian collector that differs from other collectors around the world. This research will also contribute to the growing literature regarding Indonesian consumer behavior as collectors are also considered as a consumer. This research will use both quantitative and qualitative data from Indonesian collectors to see their perception regarding several variables which includes consumer style inventory (CSI) which includes high-quality consciousness, recreational shopping consciousness, brand consciousness, impulsiveness, brand loyalty, trend consciousness, and confusion from over-choice, we will also add a new variable which was proposed on a previous research about another variable within consumer style inventory which is the resale value consciousness. We will also include the elements of hobbyist collectors, a set of elements that defines the level of engagement that a collector holds towards various aspect of collecting which includes lay public, collegial public, knowledge, and object rarity. We will also add our original variable which is the measure of investment intention as well as saving patterns. We assume that we will find differences between collectors from different demography such as gender and income level in terms of how they perceive the existing variables, we also assume that there will be variables that Indonesian collector hold in high regard compared to other variables and vice versa, and our last assumption is that we are able to create a set of new factors that can be used to define Indonesian collectors in general. We will be analyzing the data from this research using several method, we will describe the demographical analysis result from the questionnaire to see whether different demography results in a different perception towards existing variables, followed by the mean analysis from the answer to see the mean score of the variables compared to different demography to see which variables is the most important and the less important for Indonesian collectors, and lastly we conduct a factor analysis to group the existing 14 variables and create a new factors that can be used to define Indonesian collectors. We managed to minimize 14 variables which consists of consumer style inventory, elements of hobbyist collectors, as well as our original variables into 5 new factors that can be used to define Indonesian collector in general as well as to become a base for future research in this field of knowledge. text |
