Summary:Increasing fish consumption rates have a new impact on the environment in the form of pollution. Known fish scales are industrial waste fish and household waste that has not been managed optimally. From 3 fish sellers in Pelita market Sukabumi city can produce 5-10 kg per day during the pandemic. The fish scales can be used as biomaterial product design. In testing using FTIR it was known that fish scale powder has an abundant content of chitin. Chitin is the formation of chitosan as one of the bio-polymer making materials with more environmentally friendly properties. Exploration conducted in the form of phase inversion techniques and press modules can be managed into the development of a product design. It also minimizes the number of fish scales wasted until it becomes waste. A solution known as a plastic substitute. This paper covers the morphology of fish scales and the characteristic content of fish scales based on SEM, the results of FTIR, and explores as a biomaterials to design functional products such as food packaging.
