Description
Summary:In the projection, the insulator is expected to function for a long time, approximately 10- 15 years, depending on the type of material used. However, electrical pressure, mechanical stress, environmental influences, and ultraviolet rays can affect the working time of the insulator to shorten. Moreover, it can cause failure of the electrical power system insulation. Indonesia, which is a tropical country, has higher ultraviolet rays, rainfall, and humidity than non-tropical countries. This exacerbates the outer pair isolator. Some of the external tide isolators in Indonesia are installed in mountainous areas that have clean fog characteristics. To determine the response of the insulator from environmental effects, a simulation study of the leakage current passing through the surface of the insulator was carried out using ATPDraw software. The simulation uses an electric equivalent circuit consisting of a Suwarno models and a arc models. The results obtained from the simulation are compared with laboratory results to obtain the characteristics of these insulators.
