Description
Summary:As many as 35% of Indonesian audiences like the horror movie genre, because it gives the effect of fear that attracts the audience. One aspect that causes the audience to feel afraid but interested in watching is the "visual effect" in horror movies. This phenomenon is often found in horror movie trailers as a promotional step by presenting effects that can attract the attention of the audience. Trailers are promotional media that is one of the reasons someone watches movies. As technology develops, there are movie trailers that use 360° video techniques. This technique makes it easier for videos to be viewed from various angles up to 360°, providing an experience in the form of interaction with a virtual environment, so that it can make the audience feel like they are in a virtual environment. This technique leads the audience to experience four stages of engagement, namely: perception, interaction, immersion, and presence. If these four stages are associated with the horror genre, the audience will feel very scared. Because at the highest stage, namely presence, the audience will also feel the emotions of the characters in the trailer until they feel they are in it. There are two supporting media that can be used to enjoy the video technique, namely virtual reality media such as virtual reality headsets and non virtual reality such as laptops. The use of the two media is believed to cause different levels of fear perception in each person. Differences in perception are influenced by technical elements, such as user experience, distance, duration, health, movement, and immersion. The main difference between the two media lies in the immersive element. VR media can provide fully immersive while non-VR can not. Because of this, VR is believed to be able to cause greater fear than non-VR media. The perception of fear is constructed by anxiety, fear, horror, horror, and disgust. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the level of involvement, such as the stages of perception, interaction, immersion and presence due to the use of VR and non-VR-based 360° video techniques on the perception of fear of horror movie fans when watching horror movie trailers. A case study of The Nun movie trailer entitled The Nun: Escape the Abbey 360. Using the trailer because The Nun is one of the successful foreign horror movies in Indonesia. The method used is a quantitative method with 164 an experimental approach. The results of the data are identified with a Likert scale. The analysis used ANOVA, and Z test, with the help of IBM SPSS Statistic 25 software. The results showed that the visual appearance of the horror movie trailer scene when using 360° video techniques based on VR and non-VR media had an effect on horror. The higher the horror caused, the more shocking the reaction will be. The use of VR media is able to bring horror movie fans to the stage of attendance rather than non-VR when watching horror movie trailers. The presence of VR media has a more fearful effect than non-VR media. The level of fear is higher when using VR media compared to non-VR media, when watching horror movie trailers. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for science in making horror movie trailers with 360° video techniques.
