Summary: | Indonesia is a country that is rich in traditions, one of which is making crafts.
Almost all regions in Indonesia have their own unique handicrafts. However, for
various reasons, people today have a tendency to leave traditional crafts and turn
to modern products. This situation could lead to the extinction of traditional
artifacts along with techniques that have been passed down by the ancestors.
The preservation of the traditional crafts-making tradition is considered as an issue
that is highlighted in this study. The research objective was to revitalize stone
handicraft products in Tlahab Lor village, Purbalingga. The target is that the
product that is made can be in line with modern life, so that the tradition of making
stone crafts can survive, even thrive. The design process is directly involving local
craftsmen using participatory observation methods. This method is chosen to
achieve a design which is suitable with the social conditions and capabilities of
the craftsmen. The product that is designed in this research is expected to be a form
of craftsmen development so that the tradition is maintained and developed into a
higher culture. |
