This study aims to know the effect of the packaging system to avoid those damage in Banana c.v. ‘Ambon Kuning.’ Several treatments treated samples: reinforce the shipping container (the courier bag) with Styrofoam box, shelve system application, packed product using a corrugated paper box, and application of coconut husk as a vibration damp. Transportation simulations were done for 3 hours by a motorbike run for 40-60km/hour. Samples’ condition was observed by several parameters: mechanical damage on the banana peel, weight loss, organoleptic testing, acidity level (pH value), and total soluble sugar. Furthermore, the results showed how the treated samples condition and product with control treatment (packed with a plastic bag and stacked in the container) were different. It’s revealed that the packaging system didn’t significantly impact the sample’s pH and TSS shift after the simulation. However, those treatments were significantly reduced the quality declining on the other parameters. Packaging using a corrugated box equipped with a coconut husk showed the slightest mechanical area increase (1,7 cm2) and the most negligible weight loss (0,6%). Overall, packaging system treatment could positively prevent quality loss caused by mechanical damage on Banana cv. ‘Ambon Kuning’ during transportation simulation. text
