The empirical method used is based on FAA AC 150/5320-6D and the mechanistic method used is based on FAA AC 150/5320-6E and FAA AC 150/5320-6F. While the method used in calculating the PCN value is FAA AC 150/5335-5C. Comparative analysis between the empirical method and the mechanistic method was carried out based on sensitivity analysis by combining 4 variations in the composition of air transport traffic with 4 variations in subgrade conditions by assuming the total number of passengers transported remains constant so as to produce 16 alternative scenarios for flexible pavement and rigid pavement respectively for empirical methods and mechanistic methods. Sensitivity analysis was carried out on several parameters, namely, runway pavement thickness, calculation of PCN value, CDF value and cost requirements. In choosing the use of the design method, in addition to considering cost requirements, the availability of PCN values and CDF values must also be considered. In flexible and rigid pavements, Although the cost requirement generated by the empirical method is lower than the cost requirement generated by the mechanistic method, the empirical method is not more profitable because the risk of pavement failure before reaching the design life is more likely due to the relatively larger CDF value produced. So, from the three methods analyzed, FAA AC 150/5320-6F is a suitable mechanistic method to be used as a pavement design method for both flexible and rigid pavements. text
