| Summary: | The antiarthritic effect of ethanol extract of Phaleria macrocarpa fruits and its effect on TNF level had been determined in collageninduced arthritic female Wistar rats. The ethanol extract of Phaleria macrocarpa fruits at doses of 15, 22.5, and 30 mg/kg bw significantly alleviated the symptoms of arthritis such as redness and swelling compared to control group (p<0.05) after 12 days of treatments. The most potent antiarthritic effect was shown by ethanol extract of Phaleria macrocarpa at a dose of 30 mg/kg bw. The ethanol extract of Phaleria macrocarpa fruits at a dose of 30 mg/kg bw significantly lowered serum TNF level compared to control group after 12 days of treatment. Thus, it can be concluded that one of the mechanisms by which ethanol extract of Phaleria macrocarpa act as antiartritis is due to the inhibition of TNF production. |
