Summary: | Kidney has an important role in regulating body homeostasis. Kidney disease is one of „silent
epidemic?disease that affects many people around the world. There is a good relationship between
hypertension and kidney disease. Hypertension can be a cause of kidney disease, and in another hand,
also can be an impact of kidney disease. High blood pressure need to be well controlled so that it will
not aggravate renal damage especially hemodialysis patients who had suffered end-stage renal disease.
This study was aimed to evaluate the profile of antihypertensive drugs in hemodialysis patients in one
of the private hospitals in Bandung. This study was a retrospective descriptive observational study by
collecting data from daily data of hemodialysis patients during the period from October to December
2012. Based on descriptive data, there were 68 people who used antihypertensive drugs and also got
hemodialysis as a renal replacement therapy. Most of them were diagnosed end stage renal disease
with hypertension as an initiation factor. One of antihypertensive drugs which most widely used was
Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) either in single use (17.65%) or in combination with other
antihypertensive drugs (61.75%). Overall, the appropriateness of drug selection was 76.47% and the
inappropriateness of drug selection was 23.53% due to inappropriate use of HCT. The accuracy of
drug dosing in patients was 86.47% and the inaccuracy was 13.53%. Other medication that most
widely used were anti-anemia supplements (42.65%), erythropoietin hormone (38.24%), and calcium
supplements (32.35%). There were 2 potential cases of drug duplication known as the use of two drugs
from CCB class and two drugs from diuretic class. There were 3 potential cases of the inappropriate
combination of ACE Inhibitor and ARB simultaneously. Based on this research, the use of
antihypertensive drugs in hemodialysis care unit in one of the private hospital in Bandung is
appropriate, both in the drug choice and drug dosage.
