Summary:So far, the 9th grade Javanese language teacher at SMP Negeri 3 Wonogiri uses the lecture method with textbooks. However, 21 students were not interested in taking lessons, as a result, they paid less attention and concentrated on the Javanese language material, namely wayang stories. As a result, student learning outcomes are low, namely getting grades C (70-79) and D (<70). The purpose of the study was to identify the Javanese language material and test application of a visual narrative approach to Javanese language learning with wayang stories. Using a qualitative research approach with the 9th-grade case study method at SMP Negeri 3 Wonogiri. In analyzing the data using the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions based on Javanese language learning data on the syllabus, teachers, and students. The validity of the research data through data triangulation to teachers and students to find out the results of trials learning Javanese language using a visual narrative approach in the form of comics and videos for wayang story material. The results showed an increase of 35% in the aspect of understanding of the 20 students in wayang story. The results, trial using visual narratives from comics and videos resulted in 19 students or 95% faster understanding and can answer questions about wayang stories than using textbooks. The visual narrative has 4 structures which 90% can give a deep impression on students which can influence the action to quickly understand the wayang story. Can find out the comparison of the use of visual narratives for Javanese language learning, namely textbooks with comics and videos. The trial uses the inquiry method because students can gain knowledge and skills from the information on the wayang story material. This research can be a recommendation for methods and learning media that are different from the previous ones because they are by students' visual learning styles.
