PT Daya Komunikasi (company name disguised) is a medium-sized contractor company established in Indonesia. the company’s specialty is to handle property, telecommunications, and other civil works. The company business process begins by searching the projects, site acquisition (SITAC), and construction, mechanical, engineering (CME). all of the business processes will be documented and summarized into one binder and submitted to the client. the company will also issue invoicing.
Issues begin to rise with the influx of projects the company has received. Although it served as positive news, the increase in workload has led to the company’s internal issue notably its project tracking system. It had shown that the system data was unable to reflect the real-time progress of the projects which lead to inaccurate scheduling, project delay, disrupted revenue flow, and negative relationship and perception from the clients. Furthermore, the ineffective scheduling had negatively impacted the company, most notably with the project and finance department thus disrupting its working flow. Therefore, with all of the issues mentioned, this paper intends to focus on finding the root causes of ineffective project schedules and find ways and methods to improve the systems. The output of this research is providing solutions and recommendations and its implementation plan for the consideration of the company.
The research methodology used is qualitative research by using primary data from interview and secondary data from journals such as Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and other management and control journals. The selection of interview respondents was based on four clusters to gain different insight and perspective of current issues: 1) Management, 2) Project, 3) Finance. The results of the interview will be processed using coding method to obtain keywords. Major findings will be determined by using Pareto chart analysis. Following of the findings, root causes will then be analyzed by using fishbone diagram method, the root causes are, procedures, environment, human resources and system capability. The suggestions for the aforementioned issues are structural system and data storage renewal, implementation of regulation and organizational structure and implementation of decision-making tools. |
