Summary: | Panic Disorder is an anxiety disorder characterized by repeated panic attacks,
episodes of intense fear that suddenly trigger a severe physical reaction when there
is no real danger or apparent cause. Panic attacks can be so frightening that the
sufferer thinks he has lost control of himself, has a heart attack, feels like he is
dying, and is afraid of dying. If left untreated, this can cause more complex and
persistent problems in the future. Panic Disorder is often diagnosed in the younger
generation starting at 18-25 years as a productive age group. Most people with
Panic Disorder do not know what to do when a panic attack occurs and is
characterized by difficulty relaxing and focusing. This ability can be trained
through training in the Power Breathing technique used in the CART (CapnometryAssisted Respiratory Training) therapy method to relieve hyperventilation
conditions which are the leading cause of panic attack symptoms body can switch
to parasympathetic mode. The purpose of this design research is to produce an
EEG-based VR Game application that can train users' relaxation and focus skills by
utilizing VR, EEG (Electroencephalography), and game technology. This design
uses the Human-Centred Design (HCD) method for Virtual Reality (VR) through
the Inspire (Explore, Empathize, Understand), Ideate (Research, Prototype,
Collaborate), and Implement (Test, Build, Evaluate) processes. Human-Centred
Design (HCD) requires a powerful empathetic approach and focuses heavily on the
psychological state and perception of the user. The trial results show that the EEGbased VR game application can be used as a therapeutic support medium to help
improve relaxation skills during breathing exercise sessions and train the user's
focus during gameplay. |
