In the last few years this city had a quick growth. By its strategic location which suitable for trading and industrial activity the growth of this city will move even faster. This growth would go along the population growth. Unfortunately this speedy growth was not followed by efforts on improving the environmental quality which in this case means implementation of waste water treatment plant (WWTP). The existing waste water handling is by using septic tank but some had disposed their waste directly to the drainage system and rivers that would flow to and contaminate the main river (Kapuas). Therefore, development of WWTP is necessary in order to prevent further damage on the rivers. Domestic waste water contains lots of biodegradable organic compound. Therefore the type of WWTP that would be used is biological treatment. By considering the wastewater characteristic, process performance, technical and environmental aspect, the suitable alternative biological processes are Completely Mix Activated Sludge, Contact Stabilization, and Aerated Lagoon. Finally, the economical analysis on investment, operational dan maintenance cost shows that the Contact Stabilization process is the best one, that will be constructed as the biological process of the WWTP. text
