Summary:Curcuminoid components (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxy-curcumin) had been isolated from Curcutnu domestica Val. rhizome (Zingiberaceae) and Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. rhizome (Zingiberaceae). Extraction of the rhizomes was performed continuously using hexane, ethyl acetate and acetone. Fractionation of extracts was conducted by column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography. Curcuminoid crystals were obtained from hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of Curcuma domestica Val. upon concentration followed by storage of the extracts, and from a fraction of column chromatography of ethyl acetate extract. Curcuminoid components were isolated from the mixture by preparative thin layer chromatography using chloroform-ethanol-glacial acetic acid (95:5:1) as eluent and drying of the eluate with nitrogen stream.
