GEOLOGICAL EVALUATION FOR EXTENSION OF PONGKOR MINING BUSINESS LICENSE, WEST JAVA

Pongkor Mine is a one of business unit owned by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) under the name UBPE (Unit Bisnis Pertambangan Emas) Pongkor, which has been doing mining activities since 1992. The Pongkor mine is located in Nanggung District, Bogor Regency, West Java Province. In accordance with Bogor Regent Decree No. 541.2/005/Kpts/ESDM/2010, dated June 22, 2010, regarding the Adjustment of Exploitation KP (Kuasa Pertambangan) to IUP (Izin Usaha Pertambangan) OP (Operasi Produksi) for PT ANTAM Tbk, 2020 is the last year of mining activities, because in accordance with the its decree, the validity period of the IUP is until March 9, 2021 and it is not possible in 2021 to mining for only 3 (three) months (January – March). As a corporation, the Pongkor Mine is the only gold mine owned by PT ANTAM Tbk, so that if Pongkor Mine is closed and entering post-mining, PT ANTAM Tbk no longer has a gold mine. On the other hand, the final results of exploration in 2019 and previous years with supported by the actual results of the mine sample, showed very good results, it was shown by the results of the assay (analysis of gold content) on core drill samples and mine sample which is still above COG (cut off grade) for its diluted grade, that condition give expectation that at elevations below mining activities, there is still a potential mineral resource that can be converted into mineral reserves. In connection with that, the author raises the steps that have been applied to evaluate geological data, both from exploration results and from mining results to prove the potential of that mineral resources. In addition, the author also tries to evaluate the licensing process in accordance with the regulations in that time related to the process of extending the IUP OP. Quantitative analysis is used to estimate the potential of mineral resources, while qualitative analysis is used to evaluate the licensing processes. Furthermore, from the results of the two analyzes, a recommendation is obtained which can eventually become one of the considerations for the process of extending the IUP OP.
