Summary: | In the past world of work, cognitive intelligence or intelligence quotient (IQ) used as the most important criteria for employers to select their employees because it can predict individual performance. But, today, emotional intelligence (EI) or emotional quotient (EQ) is something that is no less important than IQ in employee selection and also can predict individual performance. Cognitive and emotional intelligence has been researched and confirmed that they have their respective roles to predict individual performance at work, with cognitive intelligence has a smaller portion than emotional intelligence. The matter is that the results of the ITB Alumni User Satisfaction Survey, emotional intelligence, that has a bigger portion, always has a large gap (always in the top-5) between what is needed and satisfaction. Also, from the ITB User Survey 2018, emotional intelligence of alumni of Managemzents SBM ITB, the only faculty included in the humanities at ITB that is believed to have been a pioneer in emphasizing emotional intelligence beside cognitive intelligence in ITB, is in the top-6 biggest gaps between the needs and satisfaction of users. This shows that the emotional intelligence possessed by SBM ITB alumni does not meet the standards or needs desired by the employer, and many problems and costs might be arisen from emotional intelligence deficits
Since in emotional intelligence there must be several elements that have a dominant influence on the performance, it is important to know them so they can be developed more intensively. Therefore, this study is needed to know what factors of emotional intelligence that most influencing the students’ performance measured by Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), so that it can be used as an insight and evaluation material for SBM ITB in improving the curriculum that can develop emotional intelligence. This research focus only on final year students of SBM ITB batch 2019 because although SBM is the only faculty included in the humanities at ITB, and that is believed to have been a pioneer of ITB in developing various programs and curriculum that not only focus on cognitive intelligence but also the emotional intelligence, the emotional intelligence possessed by SBM ITB alumni does not meet the standards of the users. The data of students’ cognitive and emotional intelligence are collected from EQ SBM BA while the data about students’ CGPA are from SBM ITB data bank, and there are 234 final year students of SBM ITB as a sample. The data processed using multiple linear regression with SPSS program. The result of the analysis is that there is a positive influence between self-management and stress & adaptability towards CGPA of final year student of Management SBM ITB batch 2019 and the other emotional intelligence’s elements, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship management, and emotional thought do not influence the final year student of Management SBM ITB batch 2019 CGPA. The emotional intelligence element that most influencing the CGPA of final year students of Management SBM ITB is Stress and Adaptability with 6.3% influence, then followed by self-management with 4.3% influence. |
