Description
Summary:Food security is threatened due to the reduction of agricultural land, farmer aging phenomenon, and reduced interest of the younger generation in the agricultural industry. In addition, food products need to go through a long process before reaching the hands of consumers. The Agro-Food Hub is needed to shorten the food path while at the same time initiating a vertical farming model that does not depend on land availability and weather conditions. In advancing and attracting young people's interest in the agricultural industry, space is needed to develop and form communities in the fields of agriculture and food. An Agro-Food Hub not only accommodates various agricultural activities but also accommodates the space for cultivating agricultural communities. The Agro-Food Space project is designed to create a space that will act as a melting pot for the agriculture and food industries to connect and collaborate in creating innovation. This goal is achieved through a design mission, specifically designing a space that integrates agricultural activities from production process to processing (farm to table), designing an agricultural production room that applies technology-based agricultural systems, and designing a collaboration space in the form of a public space as a driver of interaction between agricultural industries , food industries, and society. The site is located in South Semarang, a semi-urban area surrounded by residential, commercial and educational areas. Site selection is based on considerations of accessibility and the existence of agricultural activities. The design problem in this project is how to integrate agricultural activities and how to create an environment that functions as a melting pot. Agro-Food Space’s design applies a community & innovation based approach that balances social and economic aspects. This approach not only creates space to shorten food routes but also creates space to revive communities through agriculture and food.
