In the year of 2015, Indonesia Government is committed to improve its emission reduction target of 2020 to 2030; to be 29% to 41%. This is an increase if compared to scenario of running things as usual. This is also an increase from what’s committed in 2010 which was 26%.
Blue Carbon ecosystems can store up to ten times more carbon than terrestrial forests, giving them a pivotal role in addressing the climate crisis. Indonesia great ambition and commitment towards a low carbon and climate-resilient needs participation from cross sectors and societies. In May 2019, CarbonEthics was founded, aiming to decelerate the climate crisis through educating, reducing and offsetting carbon footprint. Starting as a grass-root initiative, CarbonEthics is now an official non-profit organization and is able to partner with not only individuals but also institutions.
The Author brings the study to answer three main questions. First is to understand the key factors that influence social enterprise sustainability. Second is to find out the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of CarbonEthics in maintaining business sustainability. Third, to know the strategy to deliver CarbonEthics financial & non-financial sustainability as social enterprise. The Author suggests 4 recommendations as enhancement for the business model canvas in order to achieve sustainability for CarbonEthics. First is to ensure sufficient capital for seeding stage. Second, to include technology as key resource and ensure talent development and retention. Third is digital program advancement. Last one is to explore new integrated partnerships with across stakeholders. |
