With the advantages possessed by urban farming, it is an encouragement for the people of Padang City in overcoming the problem of food (vegetable) needs through hydroponic farming techniques. with a total of up to 10 hydroponic business people in 2019 and can produce vegetables of about 29 kg / day. However, the production has not been able to meet the continuous demand every day, which is 58 kg / day, thus impacting the weak business development process. This study aims to analyze the implementation of business management (production, financial, and marketing), analyze the status of sustainability (economic, social, ecological, technical, and institutional dimensions), and form a strategy for developing hydroponic vegetable cultivation businesses in padang city. This research was conducted in Padang City using survey methods, with the implementation of research covering 3 main stages: 1) Analysis of business management in a qualitative descriptive manner. 2) Analysis of sustainability status through Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method with modification of Rap-your-Agri (Rapid Appraisal for Urban Agriculture) coordination techniques. 3) Analysis of development strategies using SWOT and QSPM (Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix) methods. Respondents in this study consisted of 8 business actors who are still active and continuous in the cultivation of hydroponic vegetables in Padang City. The results showed that 1). The implementation of hydroponic vegetable cultivation business management in padang city, West Sumatra has not run optimally. This is shown through functions that have not been maximized in business management, including: a) production management with an achievement score of 2.21 in the category of rarely applied; b) financial management with a score of 2.19 is in the category of rarely applied; c) marketing management with a score of 2.13 is in the category of rarely applied;2) Hydroponic vegetable cultivation business in Padang City is included in the category of quite sustainable in the overall dimensions (multidimensional) with an index of 49,13% and has a fairly sustainable category in the economic and institutional dimensions with indices of 51,07% and 42,15%. Ecological and technical dimensions in the sustainable category with indices of 60,89% and 63,47%, while social dimensions in the less sustainable category with an index of 31,02%; 3) There are 9 alternative business development strategies that can improve the sustainability status of the urban farming system in the city of Padang, West Sumatra, with the recommended priority strategy being to increase cooperation in the hydroponics community that has been formed with the aim of expanding information networks, conveying aspirations, optimizing production, marketing, and facilitating the preparation of cooperation programs with the government. text
