Description
Summary:The 5S method occupies the second position as the method in lean construction that is most widely applied by several BUMN contractors in Indonesia. 5S method aims to create an organized, neat, and clean work environment to increase productivity. For now, several contractors in Indonesia are implementing the 5S method by calling it 5R method which is closely related to the fulfillment of K3 aspects. It is necessary to analyze the 5R method applied to construction projects using the 5S method as a tool for lean constructions. This study aims to identify the extent of the application of 5S in the lean construction concept and obtain an overview of 5R method in accommodating the 5S method by studying the case of the Attorney General's Office project of the Republic of Indonesia. Data collection for the implementation of 5R was executed by implementing the project team interview method including the engineering, operational, HSE, and quality control sections as well as the QHSE Bureau as the department whose purpose is to socialize and implement the 5R method on projects undertaken by PT PP (Persero) Tbk. Furthermore, an analysis of the 5R Guidelines was excecuted to complement the implementation and application of 5R at the project site based on the results of the interviews on the 5S implementation based on a literature study. Based on the obtained data, it was shown that the implementation of 5R is still in the stage of cultural socialization and minimum utilization in quality and K3. The results of the 5R Instructions on the 5S implementation indicators, it was found that the most discrepancies were found in the Seiketsu and Shitsuke aspects because they were not specifically regulated with regards of their effort to maintain and discipline themselves in the application of 5R. The results of the comparison between the applied implementatation at the project site with the implementation of 5S was found that the most appropriate aspects to be implemented were efforts to place materials and equipment, labeling, lowering tools, and ensuring that the work location was used for production activities. In addition, the research shows that the 5R Guidelines and its implementations at the project site did not meet all the 5S indicators. In this study, a mapping of the benefits was also carried out based on the results of the implementation of 5R protocol at the project site and the 5R Guidelines. The result shows that the implementations and instructions of 5R achieved the best efficacy in accommodating Seiton aspect while addressing the partially applied aspects of Seiri, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke. In accordance of the achievements identification on implementing and knowing the 5R guidelines, the result shows that few out of 6 benefits of 5S can be achieved. 1 benefit can be achieved from implementing while also knowing the 5R guideline. 3 benefits can be achieved only by implementing the 5R method. Lastly, 2 benefits couldn’t be achieved optimally even after implementing while also knowing the 5R guideline.
