CHARACTERIZING WIND TUNNEL TURBULENCE STATISTICS USING HOTWIRE ANEMOMETER

Turbulence occurs in everyday phenomena, yet there has not been a deterministic theory of turbulent flow. Hotwire Anemometer is a tool to measure wind velocity, in which it can sense the chaos, randomness, or fluctuation of fluid properties at certain location through certain time. Using Hotwire...

Hotwire Anemometer is a tool to measure wind velocity, in which it can sense the chaos, randomness, or fluctuation of fluid properties at certain location through certain time. Using Hotwire Anemometer, a study of turbulence can be conducted. In this research, MUCTA (Melbourne University Constant Temperature Anemometer) was utilized for the activity of characterizing turbulence statistics of ITB closed loop wind tunnel. The characterization was done for variety of freestream velocity on an empty test section (freestream case) and on a test section involving flat plate (boundary layer case). Despite the limitations of tools, the results of the characterization are in good terms and can be used for benchmark in the future studies. Furthermore, a supporting program for MUCTA operation in the Flow Diagnostics Lab of ITB was developed and a flowchart elucidating the procedural to operate MUCTA is presented. text
