FORMULATION AND MOISTURIZING CREAM EFFECT TESTING FOR TREATMENT OF XEROSIS IN HEEL

Abstract : <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Xerosis is a dry and cracked skin condition commonly in heel which can be caused by lost of skin lipid and Natural Moisturizing Factor. Moisturizing could improve this xerosis. The aim of this study was to prepare moisturizing cream consisted of sunflower seed oil, urea and lanolin. Method cream preparation was to mix two phase after heating which oil phase slowly added into water phase.Cream evaluation included organoleptic, emulsion type, viscocity and physical stability using freeze-thaw method. For safety evaluation, irritation test wasperfomed in rabbits. Cream was also evaluated on 24 volunteers who had moderate and mild xerosis heel. Cream obtained was water in oil cream containing sunflower seed oil, lanolin and urea formed by product reaction between oleic acid and saturated calcium hydroxide as an emulsifying agent. Cream was white yellowish, homogen and viscosity was 600-700 P. Cream was induced mild irritation with primary irritation index of 1.167, however, application of the cream for 4 weeks could improve moderate and mild xerosis in volunteers heel. <br />
