Summary: | Centella asiatica has been widely used as an ingredient in skin care products because it
contains several bioactive compounds. Asiaticoside is one of the bioactive compounds of the
four main triterpenoids in Centella asiatica. The bioactivity of this compound is useful for
wound healing and skin care. The many uses of asiaticoside for beauty and health products
must be accompanied by an effective and efficient separation method. The molecularly
imprinted polymer (MIP) method used in this study can serve as a preliminary study of the
development of the MIP method for asiaticoside separation. MIP is a polymer that has a special
cavity as a binding site designed with the molecule template. In this study, asiaticoside was
used as a template molecule. MIP synthesis requires the presence of functional monomers to
form bonds with template molecules and crosslinkers to form polymer chains. The functional
monomer that can be used is 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate
(EGDMA) crosslinker. Non-imprinted polymers (NIP) were synthesized as a comparison for
MIP. The results of the synthesis were characterized using fourier transform infrared (FTIR)
and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The MIP that was successfully formed was washed
using dimethyl sulfonate (DMSO) and methanol-water (1:1, v/v) to dissolve the mold
molecules. MIPL-D, MIPL-M, and NIP performance were tested on samples containing
asiaticoside. The performance was analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography
(HPLC) showed an absorption ability with an optimum contracting time of 180 minutes at a
mass of 0,20 grams. The relative levels of absorbed asiaticoside based on the height-area of
the peak area of the chromatogram for MIPL-D were 22,80%-19,65%; for MIPL-M in the
amount of 12,58%-13,80%; and for NIP it is 31,23%-27,16%. |
