This research is motivated by the author's concern about education in underdeveloped regions in Indonesia, students who do not have access to good education with Indonesian national education standards which cannot be fulfilled. This was obtained from the author's observations and the results of interviews with mathematics teachers at MTs X and Junior High School Y. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of the novel as a self-teaching module on statistics and probability for junior high school students. This study is a research and development model or research and development with the design of the data analysis of the final test results is the posttest only control design. The design in this study used two groups consisting of an experimental group and a control group. The experimental class was class IX MTs X which applied independent learning with mathematical novels and class IX of for junior high school Y as the control class which applied independent learning without mathematical novels. The data in this study were obtained with the following techniques: interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The interview technique was used to obtain information about the learning process in the classroom carried out by the teacher, to find out the difficulties of students in learning mathematics, and how the process of students' mathematical problem solving process. The questionnaire technique used to determine the feasibility of the novel was carried out by material experts, linguists, and education practitioners. The test technique uses a subjective test, which is used to measure the similarity of the mathematical problem solving ability of the experimental class and the control class before giving treatment, and, the test is given after the treatment to measure differences in problem solving abilities of the control class and the experimental class. In this study, carried out three stages of data analysis, namely: test instrument analysis, early stage data analysis, and final stage data analysis. text |
